EDI was a German company founded by Erich Dittmann in Küps, Bavaria, shortly after the Second World War, around 1948. The company became known for its production of small celluloid and early plastic dolls, especially adapted for 1:12 and 1:18 scale dollhouses. These dolls were popular during the 1950s and 60s. EDI ceased production in the 1970s.
EDI dolls are often labeled "EDI", "EDI Germany" or "EDI D.R.G.M.", which stands for Deutsches Reichsgebrauchsmuster, a German designation for registered designs. They were made in sizes between about 5 and 15 centimetres and are characterized by movable arms and legs, sometimes even sleeping eyes. The clothes were usually sewn in simple cotton fabrics or knitted garments, typical of the time.
