ARI - German pioneer in miniature doll making!
Founded in Steinach, Thuringia, Germany, in 1864, the company ARI (August Riedeler GmbH & Co. KG) is one of the most prominent names in German doll making of the 20th century. The name "ARI" comes from the founder August Riedeler and became a well-known brand especially in the post-war period, when the company experienced a new boom in the production of plastic dolls.

ARI is mainly known for its small plastic dolls (from the 1950s onwards), often between 5 and 20 cm high. They usually have an "ARI" logo in a triangle on the back. These dolls were usually of the 'all-plastic dolls' type (whole body in plastic, rubber-like material), with painted faces, hair either painted or sometimes of molded plastic, and movable arms and legs. The dolls' legs were often fixed, while the arms could be moved, especially on the smaller models. ARI dolls were intended to be durable, colorful and affordable, making them very popular with children in Europe during the 1950s and 1970s. Many collectors see ARI as a symbol of East German toy history and an important element of the golden era of dollhouses.

Today, ARI dolls are popular collectors' items, especially among collectors of dollhouses and miniature worlds. Their nostalgic value is high, especially in Germany, the Netherlands and Scandinavia, where many children played with ARI dolls in the 1950s and 1970s.
