ABC Album, theme on the first page starts with A, the next page of B, etc.

Accordion Album, album that is folded like an accordion. Also cards that have this folding.

Acetate, a form of acid which causes the images, and the paper document decomposes and fade over time.

Acid, a substance which creates hydrogenation ions insoluble in water. Acid has a pH less than 7. The cellulose in paper, cloth, or otherwise, may be weakened by acid, or even break down.

Acid-Free, material having a pH of 7.0 or higher is acid free. Used in papermaking to break down the wood fibers and lignin that holds them together. If the acid remaining in the materials used for e.g. photo albums, so the acid can react chemically with your photographs and the surface it touches can turn yellow or turn brown. Acid-free is sometimes incorrectly used as a synonym for alkaline (basic). Scrapbooking paper must always be acid free at the time of its production.
Acid free Stickers, decorative stickers with permanent, acid free adhesive. These are used to decorate your pages and they come in 1000’s of designs.

Acid migration, the transfer of acid from the acid-rich material to a more pH neutral material. Can happen in your scrapbook, so be careful! Use plastic pockets for your layouts

Acrylic Block, used to advantage for unmounted stamps. By using acrylic blocks look better was stämplen be placed. Works both for rubber stamps and clearstamps.

Acrylic Paint Water, solid color made of pigments and binding plastic, sometimes used by stamping instead of ink, sometimes directly applied to paper and other decorations.

Acrylic Rulers, clear acrylic with two scales for precision measurement and the use of the detail work.

Adhesives (Lim, självhäftande), any substance that keeps it together, glue, tape, dots, etc. Make sure that it is acid-free!

Adhesive foam, adhesive pieces that you use to attach embellishments and decorations for your layout. Also provides 3D effect.
Adhesive Glue Pen, stick of glue for easy application (acid free).
Adhesive Photo Squares, small photo squares ready to use to mount your photos with.
Adhesive Photo Tape,  double sided tape with a paper backing specifically designed for mounting photos.
Adhesive Tape Runner, tiny strips of double sided tape in a dispenser.
Album, blank book that is used to store the scrapbook images and paper. Available in many shapes, colors and sizes. Post-bound, ring bound, strap hinge, spiral bound, etc. The most common sizes are 6x6 ", 8x8, 8.5x11", 12x12 ".

Alcohol Blending Solution, a mix that helps you to mix or to create lighter versions of your alcoholfärger. Also works as a cleaning agent.

Alkaline, opposite of acid. That's when something containing alkaline material or has a pH level of more than 7. It is specially developed adhesive products for scrapbooking and paper accessories such as photo corners, limpennor, self-adhesive dots, spray adhesive, double sided tape, etc.

Altered/Altering, using scrapbooking techniques and accessories eg, collages, CD.s, books, called lunch boxes, tändsticksaskear sheet metal boxes, cigar boxes paint cans and much more.

Analogous Colors, next to each other on a color wheel.

Angel Company, is an American term for companies that allows the sale of products manufactured by undertaking concerned stamps. The policy applies to both American and foreign companies.

Angel Policy, company that allows the sale of cards and another where the company stamps used, provided that it is hand stamped.

Aperture, aperture on a camera that let in the light when you press the button and take a picture.

Appliqué, applying the shaped pieces of fabric to a base fabric to form a design or pattern for e.g. punching out.

Archival, term used to describe the technology or product which is used to preserve images photos, or other memories. High resistance to aging.

Archival Ink, Durable dye ink that does not fade or smudge. Even if you aplicerar watercolor by stamping, it does not bleed color. Also perfect for documents you do not expect to watch for many years. Manufacturing has not agreed on a standard here, so there are variations when it comes to describing the characteristics during begrepper "archive safe".

Archival Quality, objects that are both acid-free and lignin-free. Archive Secure materail expected to hold about 100 years ...

Archival Mist, anhydrous spray that neutralizes acid and slows down the aging of materials due to moisture and temperature changes.

Art Journal, diary that chronologically describes ideas, memories and thoughts of an artist. The pages of an Art Journal contains the words, pictures and decorations.

ATC Artist Trading Cards, cards in size 8.9 * 6.4 cm. The original idea was at tkorten only got changed / given away and not sold. The cards are usually scrapped and / or stamped.

Assemblage, 3D objects glued to a surface, sometimes together as a collage and photomontage.

Background Layout, Background layer, which is the paper loaded in the back of your layout or page.

Basic templates, base forms e.g. squares, rectangles, ovals or circles.

Beading, ornamentation and decoration with beads. Many different shapes, designs, colors, materials and sizes. Can be attached with glue, wire, etc ...

Beads, loose beads / stones in a variety of colors, materials and sizes.

Binding, enclose or attach a book between casings.

Bleed, an effect that occurs when too much ink or dye is absorbed by the paper.

Blending Pencil, tools used to blend / mix color pencils to create different shades.

BOM, Book Of Me, includes your own life story with the events and memories in life you consider worth remembering.

Bond paper, made from either cotton, chemically pulped wood pulp, or a combination. Have exquisite strength to weight ratio.

Bone Folder, smooth piece of bone or plastic, round at one end, pointed in the second, the size of a brevsprättare. Was used for folding and make slits in the paper.

Borders, The exterior of a layout that is specially decorated or otherwise front lift.

Brads, similar to the so-called office holder who threading through the holes in a stack of paper. Available in many different storlkar, shapes and colors. Easy to use as decorations. Often in metal.

Brayer, a tool with plastic handle and a small rolling rubber stick. (Typlikt small paint roller) is usually used with plastic stencils to make the background paper

Brag Book, small albums used to display images on a specific theme, normal children and grandchildren.

Buffered Paper, is a paper that is pH neutral at first, but then have a supply of alkali to neutralize the acid which may migrate to the paper. Prevents acid to move from one photo to the paper. pH of 8.5.

Buffer, an alkaline substance in the paper making it acidic. Archive Secure materials have sometimes enomgått this process.

Buttons, many different shapes, designs, colors, materials and sizes. Unique keys are available for scrapbooking. They are smooth and thin.

Calligraphy, the art form to produce beautiful and elegant handwritten so-called "old-texting".

Card Making, the art form to create anni- / greeting cards by hand. Excellent combining msgs any scrapbooking techniques!

Cardstock, usually featureless thick paper, but also occur as patterned. Available in a variety of weights, qualities, textures, colors and sizes for scrapbooking and cardmaking. Considered as a must for all scrapbookers! Often used as a background paper on layouts and cards. Ensure that it is acid-free.

CASE Copy And Steel Everything, means to copyan entire layout / page that someone else made.

Casein, color pigments with a milk-based binding, normally opaque, except if it is applied on a thin smooth / glazed surface

Chalk/Chalking, also known as pastel / dry chalk, used to lighten up, shadow and highlight die-cuts, photo frames, letters, subtitles, punch outs, paper piecing, and much more. Chalks normally applied with any type of cotton applicator, etc. Think of it as if it were a mascara for your project!

Charms, usually small pendant-like decorations to your layouts / cards

Chemical Stability, the ability of a particular chemical composition to be resistant in the structure when exposed to other chemicals.

Chipboard, cardboard-like material often colorless. Available in a large variety of subjects, ranging from letters to the figures. Adds dimension to your projects.

Circle Cutter, a tool which manufactures perfect circles of different sizes.

Circle Journal, a theme albums that have been sent by a group of people, each person contributes a page in the album before it passes to the next person.

CK Creating Keepsakes, is one of the most famous American scrapbooking papers. Easy read!

CK OK, scrapbooking seal (standard) for approval, Creating Keepsakes Okay. Materials that have this "stamp" is OK to use for scrapbooking.

Clean-Line Design, a concept that encourages a "Less is more" approach to layout design. Generally involve straight lines, geometric formers and only a few decorations (if any ...)

Clip-Art, motif purchased in book form, sheets or via software, which can be passed directly on to your scrapbooking layouts. Designs are also available through Internet sites.

Coated Paper, made with a coated surface that can range from matte to high gloss finish. The coating seals the surface of the paper, making it smooth, and allows ink to dry on the surface of the paper without it sinks in.

Collage, artistsk composition created by a variety of materials, colors and shapes. Everything is glued together toward a common surface, generally with overlapping technique.

Color Blocking, a technique using different shapes of blocks, and colored paper to create backgrounds layouts.

Colorfast, heat, acid and light are the most detrimental factors in your writing. A color solid material / product withstands all these factors!

Color Wheel, one in most cases round color scale showing the colors interrelation and placement. Color schemes are defined based on the color wheel.

Coluzzle, plastic template to use as a cutting guide at the different types of shapes and motifs. You need a hobby knife as the cutting instrument.

Complementary Colors, two colors as opposites on the color wheel.

Computer Generated, layouts and pages that are created digitally by användatetav a computer ..

Conchos, less round / square metal frames that have spikes on the back. These pins are inserted through the paper and then folded down to be attached typlikt påsnitar. In the frames can eg have small pieces of paper with letters

Corner-Edger Scissors, cut corners, each pair produces four different types of corners

Corner Rounder, a hand punch that punches out the corner of the paper. There is also handpunchar that punches out the corners / edges of various kinds of patterns.

Corrugator, tools that create wavy paper.

Corrugated Paper, thick wavy paper, available in many colors.

Cradle, aid to set a Quickutz Squeeze Tool, when to stand on a table.

Craft Knife, looks like a small blade on the end of a pencil. Widely used for cutting pill Riga corners, small spaces, letters, etc.

Creative Lettering, Hand Lettering, the use of pens and marker pens to create unique dekroativa titles / headings and words in layouts and cards

Crimper, a tool that folds paper into regular patterns and adds 3D effect to your layouts and cards.

Crop/Cropping, 1. A scrapbooking party led by one "expert" who share their knowledge in terms of technologies, products and information with the group.  2. To cut or "tune" a photo. If you do not apply this technique, you would probably still have an ordinary photo album ... One of the "must" techniques that you learn the beginner phase of scrapbooking.

Cutting Mat, rubber fitted foam mat (in most cases) This is a thick mat used for cutting and cropping on and it protects the surface underneath that you are working on and gives stability to your working surface. Is often self-healing.

Cut-Outs, finished art you cut or perforated by pressing out.

Cuttlebug, a punch from Provocraft. Based on the principle that it cranks through a thin sheet punch with a piece of paper on top. The machine punches when this subject. Takes virtually all commercially available punches. (It uses different thicknesses of shims)

CuttleKids, same as above, but simpler, smaller and meant to be used for children.

Cybercrop, is a scrapträff online. includes chat, contests and challenges. Do mostly place in a day. An alternative if you do not want to pack all the stuff and head to a hit!

De-Acidify, process that removes acid from paper to restrained degradation.

De-acidification Spray, neutralizes acid in the newspaper clippings and other documents.

Debossing, Contrary to embossing; the design is pressed into the paper or media. (If you turn the page on the paper so it is embossed!)

Decoupage, the art of decorating a surface with cut-outs of paper, or articles which have been produced with this technology.

Decorative Ruler, these are cardboard, plastic of metal rulers that have been shaped to give you a decorative edge that you can either cut or draw along.

Decorative Scissors, with decorative pattern on the sheet.

Degradation, process for a material that is broken down from its current location to a deterioration in status, e.g. paper yellowing or fading.

Design, to create or implement a konstsnärligt and professionally ways.

Diamond Glaze, a lacquer painting with the top of your subject, and that creates a smooth raised surface. Provides an enhanced 3-D effect and can be used as glue.

Die-Cut, paper cut design / stamsat from die cut machines, often used to decorate layouts. Requires attachment with someone limprodukt.

Dies, punch template used in eg Cuttlebug machine to punch out the die-cuts.

Digital Image, composed of pixels or dots.

Distress Ink, pad printing with water-based quick-drying ink. Refills are available in small cute bottles. However, not always Archives sure!

Doodling, is to draw freehand on a layout / card. You can compare it with the "clutter" you draw when you Sitte Roch smears on the paper when you are in a meeting or talking on the phone ....!

Double-Mount, placing a photo of the two background papers.

Dove Blender, is a pen with a transparent agent (glycerin) and used to pick up other colors and create a soft appearance. Is perfect for mixing colors or to provide transitions between light and dark. Can be used with eg crayons, powder paints, watercolor pencils and ink.

Durability, the degree to which a paper retains its original quality.

Dry-Brushing, technique for applying chalks or paint with a dry brush or applicator and remove most by "brushing" on a piece of paper wad before you use it. This prevents color bleeding under the edge of a stencil, osamt that chalks appear dark.

Dry Embossing, use a needle or other tool to create a raised or lowered designed in the paper, cardstock or other surface.

Dye-Based ink, water based fast drying, washable, not always Archives sure. They are permanent after applied to paper. Fade with time and has a tendency to bleed. A little more difficult to use for embossing because they dry quickly. Great to use on vellum!

Ejection Foam, used on punches to punch tool in aim to better get the paper out of shape that you punched in. The foam must be on the same page that you have "blades" that cuts through the paper. This way you do not need with the fingers help remove your subject in the punch and thus reksera to breakage

Embellishment, may be what accessories anywhere that enhances your layout, e.g. charms, stickers, ribbons, glitter, brads, tags, die cuts, buttons and much more.

Emboss, creating a raised surface by applying heat or pressure.

Embossing Dry, a technique for creating a raised surface on cardstock, paper or other material, by either using a brass stencil with light commits or a needle-like tool. Another variation is to use the Fiskars Shape Boss and stencil.

Embossing Ink, thick clear or slightly tinted ink used in wet embossing with embossing powder.

Embossing Powder, spread the wet ink stamped paper and then heated, the powder melts when fixed and provides a raised surface. delivers rich color and a solid level surface. Wonderfully beautiful!

Embossing Wet, a technique using rubber stamps with inks and embossing powder ocgh results in a raised stamp designs onto paper or other materials.

Emboss Resist, a technique where the stamp and emboss area you have selected with a clear stamp pad and clear embossing powder. Ideen here is to use chalk, paints, metallic rub-ons, etc, on top of the surface so that the subject resists color. 

Embossing Enamel, thick embossing powder used to obtain an enamel-like surface. By applying heat with a heat gun to the powder, then melt it and form a fine enamel-like surface. It puts normally at least three layers. Provides an enhanced 3D effect.

Encapsulation, a method that shows the 3-D design / memories and protect adjacent components from acid which may be found in the motives / memories ...

Ephemera, refers generally to print from the "old days" as cancellerade stamps, gaming receipts, old postcards, etc., applied to the pages, layouts, etc.

Epoxy, two components which when mixed together, form a very strong adhesive bond after curing.

Eyelets, aluminum or metal rings / circles that come in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors, designed to serve as reinforcement in a hole in the eg cloth, paper, etc. Can handle to hold multiple sheets of paper.

Eyelet Setter, a metal tool holding / place the eyelet into the hole. (And flattens)

EZ-Foam, a mounting system for stamps, which only requires temporary mounting. The foam is sticky on one side and smooth on the other. The stamp is attached to the sticky side. The Other Side, attach to the data to be used eg an acrylic block.

Faux Postage, a stamping technique that creates stamps using templates and stamps.

Fibres, wire-like decoration for decorating layouts and cards.

Film Speed, refers to the film's sensitivity to light. Movies with lower speed is less light sensitive, while films with higher speed is more light-sensitive and used to advantage in situations with little light.

Fine and Chisel Pens, a fine point about 0.5 mm, but also a so-called chisel tip about 6 mm chisel tip 6.0 mm. Used for subtitles, headings and journaling generally

Findings, or found objects, caught in flight, etc. Objects or events as an artist gather in order to use the layouts, and other subject-matter.

Fixative, a fixative spray typically used to drawn by pencil.

Flocking, extremely small fibers that mounts in glue or varnish. forming a velvety finish.

Foam Stamps, made of foam rubber material, available in a variety of shapes, designs, fonts and sizes. Generally, you use acrylic paint to the foam stamp motif, which then "pushed" on a piece of paper or other surface. Ink may also be used.

Focal Point, It instead of a product in which the natural 'focus is. The eyes are drawn naturally to this point. You should strive to put your head photo on the focus point!

Font, the style of a font or style. The creative way to use fonts for journaling and titles contribute much to the overall result on your layout.

Foil, metal foil / decorative foil (Thinner) that can be used to stamp on and also to torrembossing. Applied by rubbing the foals in a special limPerfekt if you want to create a metal-like appearance of your project!

Foiling Glue, glues used for metal / decoration foil to apply it to the layout. The glue is transparent when dry and a bit sticky so you can rub the metal / foil decoration!

Frame-Ups, pre-cutted frames, people, die cuts, titles, journaling, and more.

Game Pieces, different parts from games to use as decorations, such alphapet letters, monopoly game board, dice, etc.

Gel Pens - Gel-Based Rollers, pens with pigment ink, normally acid-free.

Genealogy, conduct of research in the lineage of a person, group or family, to find an ancestor. Very popular to create so-called. family trees by exploring your own family's lineage.

General Pattern Paper, with patterns made to be used for all occasions. 
Gesso, chalk-like base used to prepare surfaces for painting, journaling / subtitle lettering, etc.

Gift Album, a compilation of photos and memories directed against a specific person or event.

Gift Tags, perforated or in a pattern so that you can easily cut yourself. Was used to hanging titles / headlines, journaling or just as decoration..

Gilding, a concept which adds gold to a surface, such as with flakes of gold leaf.,

Gloss Finish, with glossy photos. It may also describe the surface of a part metal, paints, paper, etc.

Glue Dots, round circles (dots) of adhesives used primarily to keep the decorations such as buttons, or heavy metal decorations. Also very useful to 'hang on' things in paper and other materials, which normally is difficult to hang decorations.

Glue Pens, pen with tip of various sizes that the adhesive flows through when pressure is applied. Acid-free and archival safe.
Glue re-positionable, an acid free adhesive that stays tacky allowing you to move your item around until satisfied with its location.

Glue Stick, round pin with a solid dust glue deleting the surfaces to be bonded.

Grain, in the direction of a paper fibers located, corresponding to the direction in which the paper is made of. It is better to fold a paper in the opposite direction, since the paper fibers which do not divide and allowing the paper to tear it. If you klippe Reller cut a paper in the vein direction, so the paper to curl at the edges.

Grid, is a stamp technique where you using post-it notes creates a grid that you color and stamps in an effective manner.

Grossgrain, is the common name for the band pattern similar to "ribs".

Halos, a mounting system for unmounted stamps, consisting of acrylic blocks where traces milled out and fitted with kardborreremsor. The unmounted stamps are fitted with Velcro and attached to the block when it is used.

Handmade Paper, often ruffled and without structure, sometimes leaves and flowers in the paper, which then provides a natural experience.

Handmade Scraps, scrapbook material made on the basis out from different layers of die cuts.

Heading, title that explains the theme of a card or layout.

Heat Embossing, a process where the crystal-like powder is heated to a melting point, and then when it has cooled is resultetet a hard smooth raised surface.

Heat Gun, used to heat and apply embossing powder / inks. Distributes heated air to a specific area. Similar to small hairdryers.

Heritage, traditions conveyed from generation to generation. Layouts include photos, journaling and other memories or, in other words, you scrappar about your genealogy!

Hermafix, glue container to use for thin paper. Contains small self adhesive pieces with glue on both sides

Hole Punch, a hole doer which together with a setter, making it possible to easily mount eyelets and the like.

Idea books, normally only one aspect at a time on scrapbooking, such as theme, technique, or tips. Generally contains a book of ideas very colored pictures of example but even written instructions.

Inch, 1 inch = 2.54 cm. Also states that ".

Ink (Pigment), differs from normal dye-based ink by being thicker, bleach resistant and dries slowly. Generally bright and vivid, also works great on matte paper. Advantageously used for heat embossing, but must be applied to coated or glossy surfaces, to prevent ink smudging

Inking, art to use inkpads to "smear", "aged" paper and incur material. Essentially Inkar you across or on the edges of the paper or other objects. Sometimes, the technique also to cover an entire surface.

Ink-Jet Printer, be used to print out photos, journaling, clip-art, etc. The ink is not always water safe and appropriate for things that you want to be archival safe.

Intensity, the strength of a color based on how close / far from it is its own base color.

Journaling, refers to any phrase, word poetry or text as a scrapbook page has to convey the meaning of a photo. It can be done with your own subtitles, with gelatinized letters, rub-ons, or by ritmallar. The most important in all memory album is to document the who, where and how!

Glossary of Scrapbooking Terms L

Lightfastness, the speed at which a pigmented or colored paper fade in sunlight.

Lignin, a component of the cell wall of a plant that occurs naturally, together with cellulose. (The substance that makes there tpapper yellow or brown) That makes your paper turn yellow & brown). Degrade over time. Lignin is responsible for strength and rigidity in plants, but its presence in paper products are considered to contribute to chemical degradation. Lignin holds wood fibers together when a tree grows. Most paper except newsprint, is lignin-free. You should not use paper with lignin your scrapbook pages. Some believe that lignin causes more damage to photos compared with acid.

Lithography, a printing process where the image to be printed is a flat pressure on a sheet of zinc or aluminum, and treated to resist ink while the part where no image is treated to operate repellent to ink.

Liquid Adhesive, is the best fastening application for small decorations, die cut letters, etc.

Lower Case, small letters.

 

Magazines, publications on the topic scrapbooking, card making, stamping, etc.

Magic Mesh, self-adhesive mesh, available in various colors.

Magnetic Albums, album where the photos photos placed on self-adhesive pieces / cards, and then used a plastic pocket to cover the photo and unused self adhesive piece. Be careful about using this type of album, as they can damage your photos and are therefore not ok to use as a scrapbook!

Markers, water-soluble ink, used as coloring, but also to color a stamp. A good kvalitermärke is ZIG pens.

Masking, a technique used to obtain an effect that looks like stamped motifs lying a little behind the other, in front of each other, coming out ... or merge into one another.

Master Family Album, include photos and other documents on all family members, often in chronological order

Matte, Matting, technique of using a different paper, color or texture to create a framework and a background around your photos, letters or journaling. Pre-cut photo mats are available in all sorts of variants and materials.

Matte Finish, describes the surface of a photo, paper, paints. Contrary to the blank.

Melt Art, 3-D decorations created using a melt mass as embossing thick enamel, glue or wax. Is often used to "cap" the smaller decorations type buttons, etc., and then provides an increased 3D effect.

Memorabilia, documents and other objects that tell a story, for example, souvenirs from a holiday trip.

Metal Embossing, art or process of creating a raised surface on the metal by hammering or pressing thin metal from the opposite side.

Metallic Pigment, micro scopic metal flakes with a suitable adhesive suitable for artistic use.

Mica, natural product that is acid-free and heat resistant. Paper thin layers can be pulled apart and merged with a translucent clear self adhesive piece to a photo, flower or other decorations.

Micro Tip Scissors, Scissors with a specially ground tip for precision cutting.

Mini Album, Normally a handmade album that contains fewer pages / layouts, and which is dedicated to a particular theme, 6x6 inches (15x15 cm).

Mixed Media, the use of multiple media, such as paper, colors, stamps, inks and more, to create short / layouts.

Molding Paste, A thick acrylic paste that is used to obtain textured or embossed effect on eg card / frames

Monochromatic Color Scheme, describes the different shades of the same color, in varying levels of light and dark.

Monogram, capital letter, which is often a headline, or the first letter of a paragraph of text, the initials of a name, and so on.

Montage, art nourished form to incorporate photos into a collage..

Mosaic, a technique in scrapbooking where you cut out your photos, papers, etc., in small portions, and then puts them back together to create a "mosaic" look

Mount, To attach a photo, decoration or other object into a piece of paper.
